My Bad!

I am soooo sorry, I know I haven’t been blogging lately. 😦 It’s just that the past few weeks have been so busy, even if I have had three days worth of vacation from work (due to Korean New Year or Seollal). Another reason is, I got so engrossed by watching You Tube videos, so I got lazy. There, I said it. Hehehe. As soon as all the craziness in my life has passed, I promise to blog properly. I pinky swear it.

Anyhoo, I made a new Facebook account! 🙂 Two weeks into the social network and I’ve garnered 300+ friends already — yabang! 🙂

P.S. > I hope I can make my entry in Mama Kat’s Writing Workshop in time! Toodles everyone! 🙂

Quick Update! :)

Hello everyone! 🙂 I’m super happy that I got lotsa comment love from the ladies of Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop (I LOVE YOU ALL!! :))

I’m also super ecstatic to tell all of you that finally, after FORTY-EIGHT MILLION YEARS (to non-Filipinos, saying forty-eight million years is a sarcastic way of saying “a long time”. I don’t know why though), we already have INTERNET CONNECTION at home! 🙂 Hurray for us, our household has left the Dark Ages! LOL! Just kidding! 🙂

Although this is going to leave another serious dent to my financial status, I guess it’s all worth it.

Hhhhmmm.. Should Ram and I make new Facebook accounts again? Seems extremely tempting. But we can’t bear meddlesome folks. What say you?

Sound off in the comments section.

Good morning! 🙂

Writer’s Workshop Entry #1

Mama's Losin' It

I’ve discovered Mama Kat and her wonderful writing workshop weekly meme months ago, but I didn’t have a blog back then, so I couldn’t do anything about it.

But now that I DO have a blog and my writing skills are kinda rusty, so I figured, I do need to join.

Problem is, which one of the prompts am I going to write about???

At the risk of sounding cheesy and mushy, I’ll write about “Something Unique You Love About Your Significant Other”.

Ooookay… now what? Sure, it sounds easy enough to write about, but now that I think about it… what IS something unique I love about my boyfriend?

Believe it or not, I had to search first to get the exact definition of UNIQUE.

1. existing as the only one or as the sole example; single; solitary in type or characteristics: a unique copy of an ancient manuscript.
2. having no like or equal; unparalleled; incomparable: Bach was unique in his handling of counterpoint.
3. limited in occurrence to a given class, situation, or area: a species unique to Australia.
4. limited to a single outcome or result; without alternative possibilities: Certain types of problems have unique solutions.
5. not typical; unusual: She has a very unique smile.

GREAT. Now the seemingly easiest prompt turned into the HARDEST ONE.

Okay, okay, no more dawdling. I’m going to start writing now, so here goes…

Something unique that I love about my boyfriend is, he CANNOT stay in Starbucks for a long time. Heck, he can’t even stay there long enough to wait for our order. He keeps telling me, “Can we just drink it outside?”, “You go wait for our coffee, and I’ll go wait for you outside?” or the heartbreaking “Do we really have to buy coffee from Starbucks?”

See, Starbucks here in the Philippines is considered one of the status markers of the elite (looking at it from a middle-class citizen’s perspective). Not just Starbucks though, but any kind of fancy-shmancy coffee shop. If you come out of a coffee shop, holding a plastic cup with store’s name plastered on it, and some (not all) will look at you like you’re a thick wad of cash. They’ll think, “Oooh, she just came out of (name of a coffee shop), she must be rich. I bet she goes there everyday!” Some (again, I say SOME), mostly teenagers, go there by droves, ordering one Frappe, so all of them could stay inside the cafe, hoping their peers can see them as cool and whatnot.

But my boyfriend doesn’t want to drink coffee inside Starbucks, or any coffee shop for that matter. Not that he doesn’t like the coffee, because he sure does (he just thinks it’s too expensive)! He DOESN’T WANT TO STAY INSIDE because, he doesn’t want to be around the rich-and-cool and the pretending-to-be-rich-and-cool people. He wants to drink his hot cup of coffee in peace, away from the prying eyes of adolescents, trying to see what other people had for a drink.

And that, my friends, is one of many unique things that I love about Ram. I love you Honey! 🙂

PS > I know you’ve been playing Defense of the Ancients (DotA) for hours now. Get off the computer already! >:< I love you! 🙂 Now, get off! :<

Just An Update!

I’m sorry I haven’t updated my blog for a couple of days now. 😦 I wanted to post a review of the Maybelline Clear Smooth Mineral Powder Foundation and Luminous Blush, but we currently have no internet connection at home (boo-hoo!) and I couldn’t post pictures using the computer here at work, because the IT department blocked some applications and all (Yeah, thanks IT! You know who you are!)

Anyway, I’m doing good today. Only a couple of classes scheduled, and the first one’s already absent. Yaaaay! 🙂 I’m still waiting for the next one, though. So, to while away the time, I read other blogs or just chat with my co-teachers. 🙂 I loooove my JOB! 😛

How’s your day? Care to share? 🙂

Good day everyone! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Review: Fashion 21 Color Mood Lipstick in Mystical Mauve

I’ve been wearing red and coral-colored lipsticks for the longest time, so my mom and I went around the Beauty Section of SM Cubao to look for a nude-colored one. Naturally, I was super excited because I wanted to have keep a natural look (like I’m not wearing makeup at all) as per request of my boyfriend. LOL! He keeps ragging on the ones that I’ve been using —- “It’s too red!” or “It’s too shiny!” or “You’re putting too much!” Okay, the last one was really my fault. 😛

It was a good thing that I came with my mom; because finding the right shade will be a nightmare if I did it on my own (I am sooooo bad when it comes to matching colors with my skin tone). Anyhoo, when we got to Fashion 21, I started trying different nude lipsticks at once with Mom serving as my Cinderella mirror :). After a couple of trials, we found the perfect color — Mystical Mauve! I went ahead to the cash register and paid for it, before we change our minds and try something else (a trait we share).

~~> the color! It looks so natural on my lips!

~~> the staying power! When I drink something, it’s still there! Unlike some lipsticks, most of the color gets washed off, leaving your lips with “lip liner”.

~~> the silky smoothness on my lips!

~~> the way it doesn’t get on my teeth! LOL!

~~> the price! Only 150 pesos ($3.50)!

Nothing… so far!

The verdict:  I will definitely buy another one when I finish the first tube! LOL! I will probably try out different shades too! 🙂

How about you, have you tried other Fashion 21 lippies lately?

Yesterday’s Loot

After scouring Araneta Center for things that I need (nay, want), I found myself walking home with these items:

CreamSilk Damage Control Conditioner

White Rain for Men 3in1 Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash

Hannah Montana by Olay Body Wash

Fitness Oil Control Sheet

Fashion 21 Color Mood Lipstick in Mystical Mauve

Fashion 21 White Eyeliner

Maybelline Clear Smooth Minerals Healthy Natural Luminous Blush in Soft Mauve

Maybelline Clear Smooth Minerals Healthy Natural Powder Foundation in Natural Ochre

Asian Secrets Lulur Whitening Body Scrub

And the total retail price of these items is… 2,040.75 pesos (around $47)

I can totally hear my wallet moaning. 😦

On the plus side, I got more stickers on my Maybelline Empire Card!  I’m such a kid for getting all worked up on collecting stickers! 🙂

PS > Mom, I had a great time shopping with you yesterday. 🙂 Next payday weekend again, okay? LOL!

PPS > The White Rain 3in1 Shampoo, Conditioner and Body Wash is for my boyfriend. 🙂

Starting A New Blog.. Again!

Hey blog universe, it’s me Solace (though you probably know me by my first name — Yanna). I’m starting a new blog again, and I’m hoping I won’t abandon it after a few months (Haha). Don’t worry, this won’t be like the sucky-whiny-bitter other blogs I had years ago. 😛

I know the title is SOOO UNORIGINAL. But it amply describes what I want my blog to be, a chunk of me in cyberspace. I still want to maintain a presence here in the World Wide Web, even though I deleted my Facebook account (privacy issues — more details soon). This blog will be about me, the things that I do, the things that I love, and everything in between.

Anyhoo, since this is the first post, I should tell you something about myself.

~~~ I’m a 23-year-old RN living out my dream (almost). I teach Korean kids (through video streaming) how to speak in English. I have been working in this industry for a year now, and plan to stay here while I’m working out whether to take post-graduate studies or not.
~~~ I’m very shy when meeting strangers, but once I get to know them, you won’t get me to stop talking.

~~~ I love pigging out while watching cooking shows on TLC (who doesn’t?); coffee dates with my mom; DVD marathons of How I Met Your Mother, Gossip Girl and That ’70’s Show; daydreaming about my future; reading HP books, Dragonlance Chronicles, Confessions of a Shopaholic series and other blogs; and hoarding memorable yet useless stuff.
~~~ My mom, sister and I are pretty close, so expect these two to be mentioned in this blog often (they should be henceforth known as Mom / Motherrr and Jara).

~~~ I have been in a relationship for almost four years to a formidable-looking, extremely athletic, gaming addict enthusiast named Ram. 🙂 We met in Nursing school, and we have been inseparable ever since.
~~~ I’m from Quezon City (known as City of the Stars), but I don’t see celebrities much often (I am not a very observant person).

~~~ My money-saving skills are non-existent. I spend money like crazy. Haha. Well, not really. But I do need to work on saving — soon.
Ooookay. Enough of me — for now. 🙂
PS > I’m excited for tomorrow’s coffee date with Mom. We’ll go makeup shopping. Yaaaaay!! 🙂
XOXO, Solace
